"Shopping List" is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season 11. In this episode, SpongeBob and Sandy have to collect Krabby Patty ingredients, but Plankton follows their every step.

Synopsis

The episode begins with SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs talking in Mr. Krabs’ office. Mr. Krabs gives SpongeBob a shopping list and tells him that they are running low on ingredients for Krabby Patties. He assigns SpongeBob the task of obtaining everything on the list. Before SpongeBob leaves, Mr. Krabs warns him to be careful of Plankton, explaining that if Plankton gets his hands on the ingredient list, it could lead to a disaster. Meanwhile, Plankton overhears the conversation from a distance and decides to follow SpongeBob to discover the ingredients. SpongeBob then travels around town searching for the items on the list while Plankton secretly follows close behind.

SpongeBob meets Sandy and shows her the shopping list. She decides to help SpongeBob due to the ingredients being hard to get, and they use her submarine to do so, with Plankton going inside a toolbox in the submarine. They go to get a hair of a yeti krab, milk from a fangtooth fish, and ghost dandruff from the Flying Dutchman. They succeeded at getting these ingredients, but every time Plankton tries to obtain them, he ends up wounded.

When Sandy and SpongeBob have gotten all the ingredients and go back to the Krusty Krab, Plankton ambushes them and takes their submarine with all the ingredients. Sandy and SpongeBob meet the yeti krab on the ground, and he is angry at them as he lost his hair. Fortunately, Sandy gives him the fur from her tail for the yeti krab to wear, and he takes them the Krusty Krab.

SpongeBob and Sandy enter the Krusty Krab and SpongeBob tells Mr. Krabs that Plankton stole the ingredients. However, Mr. Krabs reveals that the list he gave them was fake, and he sent them to get those items to keep Plankton distracted while he ordered the real ingredients from the Barg'N-Mart in the meantime. While SpongeBob is happy he didn't cause the apocalypse, Sandy is furious at Mr. Krabs for sending her and SpongeBob on a wild goose chase for nothing (as well as causing her to lose her submarine Matilda and give up the fur on her tail.) She then beats him up in his office for it, takes a bag of his money to buy a new submarine, and then launches him into the sky, to which Mr. Krabs admits that he deserved that. Meanwhile, Plankton, believing he finally had everything to make Krabby patties, puts all the fake ingredients together, while Karen warns him not to add the ghost dandruff. The episode ends with the Chum Bucket exploding due to the fake ingredients being dangerous, causing Plankton to be blasted into the sky, where he and Mr. Krabs sadly greet each other.

General

• In mid-2018, Vincent Waller accidentally released a video on his YouTube channel featuring the final storyboard of this episode. He later took down the video, but other users reuploaded it.^[4]
  • The next time a storyboard of an unaired episode has been leaked would be "Gary & Spot" from season 12 in February 2019.
• The title card background is similar to those of "Naughty Nautical Neighbors" and "Summer Job," but it's stretched to widescreen, the pineapples are red instead of orange, the background pattern is a darker shade of yellow, and has a shopping list on it.
• This episode marks the return of the Flying Dutchman in animated form since the season 8 episode "Ghoul Fools."
• "My leg!": Fred screams this as Mr. Krabs makes the Krusty Krab floor flip to reveal a shopping cart.
• Starting in this episode, Ted Seko is now working on Sherm Cohen's team.
• This is the first episode that Zeus Cervas worked on since "Yeti Krabs."
• This is one of two episodes from season 11 that are known to be storyboard-driven, the other being "The String."

• Mr. Krabs mentioning if Plankton gets his hand on the formula it will bring about the apocalypse references The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, where after the formula disappears Bikini Bottom turns apocalyptic.

• The gravestones for Dirty Dan and Pinhead Larry from "Survival of the Idiots" make a cameo appearance in this episode when Sandy is flying her submarine over the snowy mountains. This means they were real characters and they, at some point, passed away.

• Skull & Shoulders Shampoo is a parody of the Head & Shoulders shampoo brand.
• When Sandy is about to attack Mr. Krabs, her arms as well as the anchor tattoo allude to Popeye.

Errors

• While Plankton listens to Mr. Krabs through his giant stethoscope, the Krusty Krab clam sign is missing.
• When SpongeBob starts signing his shopping list song, his Krusty Krab employee hat is missing, but later reappears in the next scene.

• In one scene with the Yeti Krab, when the Yeti Krab is shivering, a picture is on the right, but in the next scene, the picture is now on the left.

• Before Sandy beats up Mr. Krabs, she is wearing red karate gloves, which are supposed to be SpongeBob's, instead of her usual green or pink karate gloves.
  • This error also occurs in "Waiting," "SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout," and "Sandy, Help Us!"
    • Although in "SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout," her green karate gloves appear being worn by Carol in the live-action segment.
