Arfs are robots that appear as an enemy in the video game Battle for Bikini Bottom and its remake, Battle for Bikini Bottom: Rehydrated. They first appear in the Mermalair as the ninth robot SpongeBob encounters in his adventures, first seen sending Arf Dawgs to attack a sponge on a hook in their introductory cutscene.

Description

Arfs are large robots that dress like a cowboy: they feature a sheriff's badge, a mustache, boots, a belt with a shell decoration and a gun holder with a bone in it, a large cowboy hat with a red band, and a doghouse with a handle.

In Rehydrated, Arfs now wear a red poncho, their badges are now on their hats, and their doghouses now have a door with bars on it.

Role in game

Arfs are somewhat rare enemies that appear in the Mermalair and Kelp Forest. In combat, they are stationary, but can summon Arf Dawgs from their doghouses. Arfs can also strike the player with their doghouses if the player gets too close to them.

It is recommended to use the Bubble Bowl or deflect the Arf Dawgs to damage Arfs. An Arf takes three hits to destroy, making Arfs one of the most durable enemies in the game. However, in the original game, the Cruise Bubble can instantly destroy them while they are idle; in the remake, they are immune to one. Hitting the Arfs causes them to retreat with rocket feet. These robots tend to amble on their own, and when provoked, they make a whistling sound. Arfs drop eighty shiny objects when destroyed.

Trivia

• Arfs are one of the few enemies in the game to have feet. Others include Monsoons (which fly rather than walk), Tar-Tars, Chomp-Bots, Robo-Sandy, and Robo-Patrick.
• Sandy cannot encounter an Arf normally, but she has unused dialogue that she would say if she encountered an Arf. Arfs also have an unused animation for being lassoed by Sandy.
